After receiving so much backlash after the release of a turtle neck that featured bright red lips when pulled over the face, reminiscent of “Black Face” Gucci released an apology immediately after for those that may have been offended. They stated,

“We can confirm that the item has been immediately removed from our online store and all physical stores. We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organization and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond.”

But that was not enough, especially for celebrities T.I., Souljah Boy, and Spike Lee.  Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Fashion brands have had a few marketing mishaps in the past that have offended certain races, including Prada. Director Spike Lee took to his Instagram and announced that he will no longer support Gucci and Prada until they hire black designers.

“It’s obvious To Da Peoples That They Don’t Have A Clue When It Comes To Racist, Blackface Hateful imagery. WAKE UP. Ya- Dig? Sho-Nuff. And Dat’s Da Coonery and Buffoonery. Truth, Ruth.”


Last year Part of Prada’s Pradamalia line were pulled after images of merchandise showcased monkey- like figurines with black faces and large red lips surfaced.
